My new female betta is a veil tail multi color (blue, reddish, purple). She came from a chain pet store. She has horizonatal stripes on her body. I read confusing things on the internet that she could be:

1. Young and not fully pigmented yet.

2. Stressed and fearful

3. Ready to breed.

I searched this forum, but didn't find anything.

What do you betta experts think?

Thanks! Makes sense. Poor girl was in a cup and now is in a new 5 gallon home with 2 ADF.

I turned the light off and hope this will help her.

About how long do you think it will take the stripes to go away?

Also, I posted about BettaFix in a the frog forum, but will do the abbreviated version here. I want to add one dose of BettaFix to the 5 gallon tank just as a preventative messure. Is this OK with the ADF?

I think it would be fine but ent had any frogs so i havent tried it. females get stress stripes alot in my opinion.

the girls do seem to stress a lot more then the boys do, and for the adf and bettafix, I don't see why it would be a problem.

Honestly, I wouldn't use any meds in the tank unless you have reason to... the only thing BettaFix really helps even when there is actually something wrong is open wounds and fin rot. I'd skip the BettaFix. :good:

And the stripes should go away once she settles into her new home. ^_^

Thanks to all for the info/advice. She seems calmer this morning. Still has some stress stripes, but not nearly as prominent as yesterday.

I fed her yesterday, but she spit out the betta bites that my boy betta (in a different tank) loves. She fooled me b/c she seemed to eat one bite, then another, and then another. Then she went to the middle of the tank and spit them out one by one! She seemed to be more interested in scavenging the bottom for food (just like my frogs, wonder if they have influenced her that quickly?).

Should I wait until maybe tomorrow to feed her again? Let her get used to her new home a bit more before I try some more food?

I'm skipping on the meds.

Sometimes they wont eat properly at first so just be patient, when shes hungry enough she'll eat. If she doesnt try some live foods
