I've heard alot about not keeping gouramies and bettas together. Although this is a very general rule it seems. I currently have 3 sparkling gourami's in a 40 us Gallon breeder planted tank. I would like to add a female betta to this tank. Will this work?

I currently have:
7 glofish (Zebra danios)
3 cherry barbs
3 sparkling gouramies
8 cardinal tetras.
cherry shrimp
nerite snails
Planned:
possible school of cories
possible school of harlequin rasboras
possible pair of rams.

I would like to consider a female betta in the tank

Hmmm with the barbs and danios and Gourmais, I am inclined to say no. However, if your tanks is big with lots of hiding places, it could work.

Would it be possible to post a picture of your tank as it is?

Heres a full tank shot minus alitle bit of the left side

From what I heard it is due to them being both able to breath from the surface, the Betta feels like the gourami is invading its territory at the surface.

Though I haven't heard anything convincing other than that.

hi, if its a female betta you want then IMO, it will be able to go into that tank with that stocking you have stated.

Whereas if its a male betta, it could possibly work. I have kept a male betta successfully with Gouramis and Danios. Although i have heard others who havent.

I dont see the problem though, as the tank is large, and there is alot of plants cover.

Hope that helps :)
