Hi everyone, just posting again as being a novice i lost the last posting on my computer and dont know how to retreive it Anywayi would like to know how much to feed and how often . I have a large oscar (who is just soo messy) a clown loach 5 gouramis a salmon catoh and 2 small silver sharks in a 140 gallon tank oh and i forgot the Angel eveyone has different ideas as to what to feed and when. Some say as much as they can in 2 minutes and 3 times a day,And i think this is what i did wrong the first time around and lost 3 good fish to bad conditions....SO WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK I usually feed 3 blocks of blood worm or some pellets or some meat mix which come in frozen portions.....PLEASE HELP AS THIS IS VERY CONFUSEING :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

i feed my fish once a day. but i dont have larger fish like oscars so im not sure how much they eat. I give my fish a pretty good sized pinch of flake food every day. Sometimes they get brine shrimp treats and vegetables.

When I'm raising up cichlids such as Oscars I feed them two times a day because I usually want to maximize they juvinal growth spurt. As they mature I cut back to once a day. Oscars are very messy fish so it is important to have ample filtration and do regular (weekly) water changes. I usually follow the rule of feeding them whatever they can eat (devour) in 2-3 minutes. Mine are on a base diet of pellets (I rotate brands for variety) and about once a week get live treats and once a week get frozen.

Hello and thanks for the info,If i feed the oscar once a day will this effect the other smaller fish or will they be ok with what he spits out(HE SEEMS TO BE THE ONE GETTING MOST THE FOOD) but he spits out a lot and i have started doing weekly water changes and everyone seems fine now after i lost the other oscar a salmon cat and a tandanus catfish . Your right the oscars are very messy But they are my most liked fish But also very greedy.

I feed my fish once a day, usually in the morning, and I put a slice of cucumber in at night for my pleco.

all those other fish arnt really suited to be with an oscar accpet maybe the silver sharks cuz they will be big enogh for him not to eat them, but all the toerh fish will eventually turn into food for the oscar as he grows and if he doesnt eat them he will kill them by harassing them to death

This oscar is alreadyabout 8 inches and believe it or not he doesnt bother with any of them cos i feed him well. They have all been together since i started this tank and the other fish are all a hood size as well so i figure at the moment he will not harm them. He is very docile for an oscar and if as he gets bigger he wants to eat them then so be it . and he will be moved to another tank. :D

Oscars are great for feeding the other fish by "regurgitating" his unwanted portions but it sinks right to the bottom so cleaning are more regular. I just recently lost my oscar after having him for a year, went away for the weekend and he suffered a bad fugus infection(I am bumbed) but he always seemed to "share" his food with everyone else.

I feed my fish once a day: 8" Pacu eats about 15 large pellets a day. (growing like a weed) The firemouths and sail fin pleco are fed once a day (I split up 2 cubes of FDTW for them) 3-Bettas are fed 4 betta pellets in the mourning. The 2-congos get a cube of worms in the morning and I feed the 5" BGK a cube in the evening (what is left over is comsumed by the congos). I know a lot of BS to get to the point of feed your fish when ever you want, just don't over feed them and cause problems with you water conditions.

Thanks for the reply as i said everyone seems to have different ideas so far you have helped me . I was bumbed when i lost my other oscar she was like any other pet and beleive it or not I cried. Sook arent I.But as you said dont over feed and i think thats what i did and she got hole in the head (well thats what it looked like and yes i was away but a friend kept doin water changes all to no avail But all the others survived which i was pleased about Thanks for the info and i will cut down better to be hungry than over fed and your right it all goes to the bottom and thats why i now do weekly water changes

Community tank - once a day

Mbuna tank - 3 times a day usually with smaller portions (greedy little buggers!! :D )
