Okay, I know that feeding white maggots is good for fish. But I was wondering is it okay to feed them earthworms from my garden or Wax-Worms that I feed my lizard? I have livebearers so they would have to be cut up quite small. I just wanted to know if they would cause any damage to the fish?

Thanks

Depends on what you feed the worms. Earthworms need to be first cleansed of any earth by leaving them in damp(not soggy) peat moss for quite a while. Wax worm can be very fatty.

Well the worms that come from the garden will eat stuff they usually eat, earth etc. The wax-worms are fed nothing, they are just put into a pot with some wood shavings.

What kind of wood shavings are they? I know the wax worms are fatty, and I do not know about feeding them, but the earthworms, yes, the earth needs to be out of the worm, and they need to be fed to the fish chopped up.

I'm not sure what shavings they are, it just says 'Wax worms in shavings'

Yeah they're fatty for lizards too. How would I get the earth out of the worm?

Thanks

I got a Bearded Dragon

So, would Wax worms be too fatty for the fish???

Yes, and they would probably ignore the worm chunks unless you have an ocscar, who would eat them whold(and they would still be too fatty for regular usage). To get the earth out of the worm, keep them in a plastic box full of damp peat moss, and leave it covered.

I mainly feed my rubber eels nightcrawlers, but they are amphibians and not really fish. I have boeseami rainbows and tetras in the tank atm, but I did once have some livebearers in there. The livebearers mainly ignored the worms and also the shrimp I fed the eels. I would suggest feeding them bloodworms or brineshrimp instead, mine like it a lot more.

Thanks, I will check out some bloodworms and brine shrimp next time I go to my LFS
