Hi.

i have 5 neon tetra and 2 honey gouramis, when i feed them one of the honey's takes in peices of flake and spits it out again. He seems to be getting skinnier everyday and i'm worried for its health.

Thanks.

If he isn't eating flake, feed him something else, like some daphnia or summat'

was the fish eating ok before with this type of food?

if so it could have internal issues. try it on different foods and see how it reacts to them, if it feeds then keep an eye on it and hopefully it will fatten back up. if it still wont eat then something isnt right.

try to see if its poo looks normal. if its clear and stringy and not eating then then it could well be internal parasites im affraid.

is it acting normal in everything else?

I did that with one of my tropical fish who rejected flakes and pellets and it soon died from vitamin deficiency.

If your fish isn't eating the healthy foods you should look out for signs of illness and get treating it rather than settling for feeding it soley high protein foods.

is the fishes anus inflammed?
any signs of tiny worms protruding from the anus?

try feeding it cooked shelled peas (as reccommended to me by another forum member)

could be internal parasites as i had this problem with my fish try a product called sera nematol should sort you out.

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

What do his gills look like. Do they look pale with excess mucas or red and inflamed.
Any signs of darting, erratic swimming, laboured breathing.
Does his belly look sunken in.
Is the spine bending.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
Do the neons still have there vibrant red stripe.
Does he act listless and lethagic.
Does he look pale or darker in colour.
Does he tilt to oneside when swimming, or resting.
Does he struggle to get off the bottom or top of the tank.

Gouramis really need larger tanks than a 10 gal tank.
Also it's rare to have a nitrate reading of 0. Unless your tap nitrate reading 0, and you have live plants.

Can't help any further till you answer the above questions.

Ok.
If he's getting skinny isolate and use a bacterial med, if he's not showing any internal or external parasite signs.

Introduce some frozen foods, and green veg into there diet.
