Is it wise to feed older bettas freeze dried bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp..

I'm thinking they must be harder to digest then the hikari little betta bites..

Does anyone think it might be bad for older bettas? I've got one that's over 2 years old, and have lost older bettas before from some sort of internal bacteria that I thought might have come from the freeze dried bloodworms..

I'm gonna take some pics of my bettas and post them in this topic later too just for fun.

Hi vancover!

I don't remember anyone ever answering that. I think if he is plenty active a blood worm treat once or twice a week wouldn't hurt. Just remember they are very high in fat, so we are recommended to alway be spare in feeding blood worms. High fat foods are probably the biggest cause of constipation, and of course that can lead to bacterial infections.

IO would think older and inactive Bettas, as you suggest, may have greater trouble.

yes yes.. that's what I was thinking..

I think from now on I will only feed that stuff once or twice a week..

I've been feeding it 4-5 times a week in the last while.. which I thought might be too much.

I'll stick to the betta bites most of the time..

Thanks :good: I'm going to go take some pics of me bettas now.

EDIT: PIC TIME

This is a male crowntail I got from some lfs.. I think it was $5... still younger then a year.. has no name.. feel free to name it for me

and his tank.. 1g petcetera tank.. no filter or heater

I got this guy in Seattle when I went to a baseball game.. went into a lfs and saw it in a small cup with 2'' of water and poo in it.. decided to buy it.. was super hot out and couldn't leave it in the car.. so I left it with the hotel receptionist.. she was extremely scared of it for some reason, and wouldn't even touch the container it was in. I named it Ichiro after the Mariners player. Again in a petcetera 1g tank

A male I got from the lfs I worked at a couple years ago.. double tail (not the nice kind. The veil kind) Was like $7 or something.. again in a 1g petcetera thing.. has no name.. feel free to name it

The lone female in the bunch.. I drove kinda far to an lfs and they had nothing I was looking for... couldn't come home empty handed so I got this girl for $2.. still pretty young.. I think this tank is about a gallon, maybe a little less.. has no name.. feel free to name it

I have the 4 tanks, and 2 lights.. so each tank gets light every other day.. they're all side by side so it's not like any of the tanks are dark... I do have another light but no outlet to plug it into.

All sweet boys! Very nice collection.

I have to admit a weakness for VTs. The celophane is my first pick. :hey:

Most of the lfs don't sell any special types of bettas... and the ones that do sell them for too much considering the quality.

When a betta dies, I just buy another one.. not really looking for any color or specific trait at all.. I just go look at em and whichever one is most interested in me I buy.

Cept that Seattle betta.. There were probably 100 bettas all in the same situation.. I have a thing for white fish so I picked that one.

I pick my VTs the same way. If they do a little dance for me and appeal to me, I pick a few to consider and usually get two. I also get Bettas from breeders on the forum occasionally.

Your new CT is a nice boy. He has personality and not too old. He is an interesting color combo too

Thanks :good:

The ct isn't really that new.. just the newest of the bunch.. I've had it probably 9 or 10 months now.. his fins have seen better days... our furnace quit working for 3 of the coldest days of the year and I didn't think to float them in heated tanks, so 2 of them got fin rot... The fin rot is gone now, so hopefully the fins will grow back within a month or 2.

I try not to buy too many bettas anymore... I once had like 50 of them and didn't keep up on water changes and was keeping them in small jars.. not a good thing to do!

I just keep 4 of them now.. easier to clean, and better for them knowing I can clean all 4 tanks in 20 minutes.

 Me too! Almost gave up Bettas and TFF in shame.

I feed live black worms. Most of my fish love them! My Bettas love them! They aren't as high in fat as bloodworms, but I stopped feeding them every day. They get them once or twice a week now. Our Bettas just don't need to eat like that, I don't think. When they start cleaning the house and washing the black worms daily then they may get more!

i like those little petcetera tanks, they're cute
very pretty fishies!

i'm a sucker for spontaneous buys too. inability to restrain myself! so i just don't look at the moment, it tempts fate!

I read that as spontaneous boys I have to take my son with me and he wont let me buy any fish. I have 2 fancy fish in the spare room...they get fed but have been pushed out with my obsession for bettas. Also 2 little tropicals that live in sons bedroom.. :look: I love my bettas and they love me. One of my oldest I keep thinking is going surprised me last night I fed betta pellets and one got stuck on side of tank about 1 inch from water level and he jumped and got it.

The tanks come with a little undergravel filter and air pump, but I don't have the plugs to plug them all in... the pump is kinda powerful too and I think it bothers the fish more then anything.

I paid $15 each for them... Canadian.
