The principal diet for my Mbuna tank is
Spirulina flakes, with algae sinking pellets for the catfish.

However, once every 2 weeks I give them a small amount of either
bloodworm or brine shrimp in the morning before a water change -
and then don't feed them again for the rest of the day.
This is to provide some variety for their diet ... along with
sliced cucumber etc as a treat.

I have read in some online articles that Mbuna don't do well with
bloodworm - causing bloat.
Would a small amount fed occasionally in this way be a problem ??

? bloodworm isnt fine for malawis you read right the fiirst time! minnnt read some books before giving advise

brine shrimp is perfectly fine. i have read tons of articles indicating worms or any type may cause bloat in malawis.

The op feeds it once every 2 weeks. It is not a staple diet. I see no real issue with that at all. The amount will be negligable anyway. Maybe you should read some books too or at least the whole first post.

Rifty does have a point about the bloodworm, but alternated with brine shrimp (so its fed once a month) I shouldn't imagine it causing any harm. Mine have always been fine.

do you keep malawis minnnt? bloodworm can cause mayhem on their very long digestive system! every book and expert says don't do it they don't need it in their diet so why risk it?

Yeah I do and mine have never had any issues hence the reason I agreed with what fluvial is currently doing. Sorry if you don't agree.

why risk something that isnt necessary to the fish that might cause issues tho?
