I have eight discus fish and I feed them mostly on forzen food, mainly bloodworm. How often and how much should you feed discus fish. Im feeding them a two blocks of frozen bloodworm (&other forzen fish foods) per day. What else do discus fish eat?

Well it's better to underfeed than overfeed, so remember that. But I don't exactly know a ton about Discus, so sorry.

I'm planning on keeping dicus soon, but don't yet. From what I've read, juvenilles (like, 2" size) should be fed about 6 times per day (!!!) as they grow fast and have relatively small stomaches. Adults, preferably 3 times a day. And that blood worm is great, as is beef heart mix, and dry discus pellets occasionally.
As I say, I don't keep them, this is just from research, but maybe that helps.

Hi there,

I keep 2 pairs of discus (all adult fish are between 7" and 9" diameter if you include the fins) in bare bottom breeding setups (24"x18"x18" tanks). As I also work full time, then I feed the fish 2 times per day through the week and probably 3 to 4 smaller feeds during weekend days. The same feeding regime applies to youngsters as well.

Currently adults get a mixture of frozen foods and Tetra Prima (a complete granular dry food), youngsters when they start feeding get crushed up granular food, fresh bbs and small particle size frozen foods (cyclops and the like). Food size is then increased as the fish grow.

H'mmm, then would it be feasible to feed my (soon-ish-to-be) discus first thing in the morning, then when I get home then last thing at night, for juvenilles with no problems?
I want to start with a group of 5, but as i can't imagine my boss being happy with the idea of my "nipping home" every couple of hours to feed my fish, was thinking I would have to get older fish.
I've only read various things about keeping them, a lot of which is contradictory.

@ annka5 > lights go on in the fish house about 7.00am and the fish are fed then, they get the 2nd feed about 8.00pm and lights go off about 10.00pm so I don't see any reason why you should have to 'nip' home to give them the extra feeds.

Critical though is water quality, these tanks get a 30 to 40% water change every other day which can go to daily if there are a lot of juveniles in the tank.

Regards

Andrew

Just don't forget that they're omnivorous. Blood, black, and tubifex worms, brine and mysis shrimp, are all good, as well as veggies like peas and zucchini, and spirulina. Flakes and pellets are always a safe staple.

Beefheart is not good for any fish, including Discus. Breeders use it to fatten their young fish up for sale, but it's a fatty and unnatural food for them that only has negative long term affects.
