I voted guppy but it was a very tough choice between them and platys and mollys; i would say they're all equal in my books.

Guppys i would say have the looks and charm.
Mollys and swords have lots of character/personality.
Platys are a nice mix of the two.

lol funny yea i own 18 mollies ^_^ they are normal black mollies and they have so much energy! and they are my ich killers ^_^ so for new coming fish i keep a molly fry in my ich treatment tank! (molly fry eat ich off of other fish)

I just had to vote for mollies. They were the first fish I had when I started this hobby, and while I'm down to just one now, I plan to have a number of them when I set up the 50 gal community this fall. (You can tell theyre my favorites, my original user name here was Many_A_Molly.... ;) ) There's just something about those lyretails that I just adore

Gotta say I'm addicted to swordtails. I love those tails and mine have so much character. I like their longer, sleeker bodies and when they have the lyretail gene, they look so cool. Guppies probably come a close second because of their colors, but i love my swordtails. I intend to have a 75 gal tank full of livebearers and tetras some day. *dreams*

Wow, what a tough choice! I had to go for Platies though. They are my newest livebearer, but I absolutely adore them!

yay i'm an individual. Not really though i've never had any of those other livebearers. Mosquito fish all the way. They are so pretty with there purple, green, and silver scales. They also have black flecks. They're tails are kinda like a guppies, minus the color and they have personality. Not to mention that they can take most anything as far as water conditions go. I love em. in fact you can see my female

a little blurry but you can see her coloration

I like all of the live bearers mentioned on the poll I've had the least success with Mollies so tend to stay away from them, although I think the black ones are gorgeous. Platies are my favorites right now because they had babies within a few weeks of me getting them. Swordtails are my next favorites because of their shape and assortment of colors, but the last time I had some they didn't have babies and they didn't live very long. :(

I'd have to say I've had all of these too and have had the same exact experiences. The platies were the cheapest and longest lived. The swordtails were a little more distinguished, more expensive, and a little more delicate. Then you had the mollies. Some of THE most gorgeous of all freshwater fish if you ask me...but had the least luck with them. Note I haven't kept these fish since I was like 10 yrs old and I know SO much more about fish keeping now.

The guppies were as hardy as the platies but I never really caught onto them as any favorite. They're just too small and fancy for my tastes I guess.

If I voted on looks alone it would the mollies....but overall full package....definately the platies!! :flex:

I think swordies will always be my favorite. I've got a 55 gallon and a 75 gallon plus 4 10 gallon fry tanks and the only thing in any of them is swordies and their friends the cory cats. I'm particularly fond of the lyretail variety and my favorite color swordie is black.

Apparently if you keep on having issues with mollys and your water stats/ph is fine for them, adding a little salt to their tank helps as they on the whole prefer it. I have had my 3mollys for a while now, my longest a 1year and a half and have never had problems with them although i don't have salt in my tank due to having corys and plecs.
Mollys will always have a soft spot in my heart since they are what i first started out with when i first started the fish keeping hobby(despite them being sold to me at the time being sold as "standard guppys" lol) and their characters are great although i think it would be nice if they had more varied colors; red/blue would be beautiful in mollys i think.

I picked swords too, although I like platies too.. for the same reasons- inexpensive and fry machines!!! I also have bad luck with mollies.

I like Mollies, just as well as I started with two females and then there were 23! They just seem so benign and they eat well. :)
