Favia Rotting!

what should i do its started to show its skeleton around the edges and theres three patches on top! most of it is not affected i have ordered some seachem reef dip to help is this the right precaution my parameters are exelent and its situated in medium-low ish flow and high up by my halide my sg is at 1.026 anything else i can do!!!!!

what fish and what corals are next to it seachem reef dip is good stuff i use it to it has safed my montaporia and open brain coral

it should be nowhere near your halide!
favia do not require much lighting and often directly under a halide is just too much.
i run a 400w halide and all of my favi have died because of this, except one which is right over on one side almost in shade.

try putting the favia at the bottom out of the direct light.

out of interest what wattage is the bulb and what depth is the tank?

the wattage is 150w and the tank is like 60cm deep?

Umm, be VERY careful with this. Is it having a auto immune response? Does it look like this?

If so, that will spread FAST and kill the coral in a matter of a day or two. You HAVE to frag it.

If it's more like the coral is just showing it's skeleton around the edges, you need to make sure your chemistry is great, and TRY dipping it in an iodine dip. If the chemistry is way off (calc/alk/mag), then you have to fix that first.

Sometimes the slow receeding favia is due to an infection of unknown origin. If the Iodine dip does NOT work, AND the chemistry is ok, the only recourse for saving the coral will be a dip in a solution with Interceptor which is a medication for dogs/cats to kill fleas. Over here in the US it's a perscription medication so you need a Vet to perscribe it, not sure what the deal is in the UK

thanks ski no it doesnt look like that thank goodness its just receeding at the edges and showing its skeleton a bit also there looks like a tiny bit of dissolving in the middle they are meant to have a hole arnt they ? i gave it an iodine dip today for 7 minuits. im not sure what kind of coral it is it doesnt look like the one in the photo ill post a pic in two ticks still very colourful. water parameters are perfect exept calc which is about 480 which is a bit high. every thing else seems fine in the tank, running uv and a super protien skimmer atm with flow at about 21x but hes not in full flow.

ok heres my coral i love it

he doesnt look so bad now (compared to other photo)


i hope the iodine dip would has done the trick

other wise that'll be another £20

although it looks like the coral is close to the zoas there not its just refraction (gcse physics coming in handy)

is it a brain favia maze coral ?

Looks pretty healthy to me, any further recession? Sometimes there are growth errors leaving out "holes" in the center of a plating favia like that. Often times they'll grow over the "hole"
