Faulty product help

Hi all
Need a little help as not having mutch luck with Fluval CC or the retailer.
Purchased the fluval flex for my daughter in January and the first time i ever lifted the pump out after the setup was about 3/4 months as it doesn't realy need to come out as it has the fome in chamber 2 witch comes out every week.
To find that the cover that holds the impela inplase had broken lose on one side but when the cage is inplace it works perfectly finebut mentioned this to the retailer and they have been in contact with Fluval For replacement.
Had an email back today stating that apparently this is a consumerball part and thag its not covered under warranty ?? In the last week the light has also started to develop a fualt witch they are currently looking into.
I can't seem to find any threads or info on cosumer law relating to aquariums.

Any help would be great as currently feel like taking the hole thing back with the current service ive had.

Sorry they are most probably right, just need to fix it and move on. All pumps and filters fail from time to time, we are in a very inhospitable environment for any equipment.
