My new Moonlight Gourami is causing me some concern.
She eats like a horse. She is a slightly pink/orange colour (might be the lighting). Her internals cannot be seen, the stomach area bulges and appears pregnant, but obviously she can't be. She is very active, and tries to be dominating even though she is the smallest gourami, she's not afraid to tangle with big fish. That is all I think. Last time she pooed it was bright red, before that black. I haven't noticed for some days so she could be constipated. Fed her peas tonight to see if that helps.
What do you guys think? I'm not totally sure she's a moonlight to be honest. She's getting close to a blue we have about her size, very affectionate actually.
So she doesn't appear in behaviour to be sick really.
This bulge though is quite large/ Heres an image if its of any help:

why cant she be pregnant? this type of fish among many others carry the eggs that are then released when the male courts her. To me she looks like she is carrying eggs and the colour of her poo is relevant to the colour of her food.
Do you have a male in the tank too?

She is currently in a tank with a male, but this behaviour began before she met him/them. She could be pregnant with roe I guess, but I thought she was too juvi for that. I estimate her length is 5 cm/2 inches. The other gourami's are all much bigger than her except the one who is courting her, who is about her side, again I thought he was too young for that kind of thing.

she looks in really good health to me and im so jealous, because i cant get gouramis to live long, never mind breeding condition. :)

We keep quite a few gourami. I love them, so cute  We unfortunately can't keep a dwarf gourami/coral blue dwarf alive longer than three weeks because of poor genetics. Except for one Chocolate gourami, all of our gouramis have been very long lived and very healthy/hardy since we brought them. We have four chocolate gouramis which we will add another four later, two pearls, two three spots, 3 possibly blue/opalines if she is one. She was sold as a moonlight but I have my doubts.
Thanks for saying shes in great health. She does behave healthily. I just wasn't sure about her bulge!

i thought she was opaline.

On another topic under Katchan in Chit Chat the general consensus is she is just that. She was sold to me as a moonlight, she is actually white, but she seems to reflect any colour around her. In my original tank that I had her in she was actually purple/pink as the wall behind is purple. In the images taken in Katchan's tank she looks gold, and that is what everyone has decided she is a pale gold. I figure she might be a varient on the opal just maybe albino or a plain white? I don't know, I'm not an expert by any means. :D Cheers. xanthia
