Geisha was poorly for about a week before she died the other day. I tryed everything I could as she was also pregnant, but in the end, for whatever reason, she just couldn't make it through. I'm spset all over again now 'cause I was thinking that my cycle was going so well and all my Fish seemed so happy.

I had assumed that she had re-absorbed her babies as her very dark gravid spot dissapeared a few days before she died. She had only been pregnant for two weeks-ish so I had had never thought that she could have given birh so early on.

...Untill yesterday, that is, when I found ten tiny orange fry!

They were all hiding in the gaps in the gravel and I had to carefully excivate them out. They're so tiny, and just as pretty as the Fantangos. Most have the apparently classic black spots on their bodies and tails. One, the last one I found, has an almost all black tail. The black spots are a mystery to me as neither mummy Geisha or daddy Lemon had any black spots on them. The spots must have came from futher back in their line.

And so I have called these fry the Fan-two-gos as they're Geisha's second and final birth. And, again, they're all orange.

All are doing well, depite being so small. Non are deformed or looking ill and all are feeding and swimming fine.

I am upset that Geisha couldn't make it, but the fact that she must have given birth before her passing makes me feel warm inside. That she obviously tried so hard to let her babies have a chance, even if it meant that she had to die...

I do understand that in this case it can't be determined how these babies will fair. I'm hoping they'll all live, but know that this might not be the case. But I will try my best with them, and hopfully play a good Fish mummy after Geisha prooved herself such a good one.

Is their anything I could do to give these tiny babies a good start. or is it just a matter of waiting to see what happens?

R.I.P Geisha. Your babies live on.

All you can do is provide plenty of food, keep the water clean as can be and they will do just fine, I have had a couple of females die during or just after birth and have felt the same way as you when it comes to their fry, you just want them all to survive so her life was not in vain. Good luck!

Thank you.

They're all still doing well, eating plenty. They all love their Daphnia too. So hopfully this means that maybe they're out of the darkest part of the preverbial woods : )
