Just before going out tonight.... I decided to give a 50% water change to my Astatotilapia fry......I was away for about 2.5 hours, & when I arrived home just now.... They're all dead.....

The tank is bubble infested and smells pure chlorine..... They were coming on so nicely, and the water change was not really necessary, but how was I to know that the municipality decided to dose the water today.

It's things like this that make you decide to give up the hobby completely!!!!!

Sorry to hear mate, tough loss.

Shouldn't you be dechlorinating your water before adding it to your tank first, especially with fry?

Have never done... & never... ( well ....very seldom... in 40 years) had any mishaps with (only) 50% water change.....

So Sorry for your loss, I hate it when that happens. Has happened to me a few times.

I know just how you feel -my cichlids had their first fry while I as on holiday. Did a 50% water change and a few days later all the fry suddenly died and Mum as well. Now I have a lonely widowed male who's going crazy. Don't give up on fish, it happens to all of us

Sorry to hear about the babies :( That's very sad.

I had a tank full of electric blue ahlis once, the tank was infested with snails and stupidly I treated it with chemical snail killer. All the fry died as well.

Ludwig I know it's a bit cheeky but are you able to answer my post on this forum about cichlid breeding? I know you have lots of experience with them.

aww Ludwig im so sorry for you,ive wiped a tank out myself and were my favorite fish too so kinda know how you feel....better luck next time :)

Oh no, you're not not having much luck with them. :-( Keep your chin up, hopefully things will get better and they'll breed again, gutting I know. :good:

sorry for your loss. Why not just add some stress coat to the tank. It will help get rid of chlorine and add a nice touch to the stress coat.
I know that you have 40 yrs on some of us, but we are always learning.
