I need some fry for my soon-to-be-here guppy fry.
I need some suggestions, anything except java moss.
I also need a COMPLETE step-by-step guide (try to keep it simple please) about what I need, and where I can get these plants. I live in Canada and I can't order online.
Please help me! I am a complete newb to this.

Thanks,

Hi there Mother to be!

You sound just like a mother hen waiting for her babies to hatch out!

Pretty much any bushy plant will do. Lots of leaves for the fry to hide in that the parents cant get to. Is there no local store or anything you can pick up some plants from? Just cheap egeria will do! It doesnt need to be anything fancy. Heck, as a last resort many plastic plants would do the job fine too. Many people raise their first fry in a community tank without even knowing it.

By step by step guide do you mean how to keep the plants growing? if so, again, id suggest not worrying. If you can get your hands on some egeria or somthing, just plonk it in the tank, floating or planted in the substrate, and it will provide some protection for the fry. If your aim is keeping the fry safe I just wouldnt bother trying to keep the plants thriving, the plants should survive long enough to do their job.

Oh, and do consider a fry tank or a mini mesh tank you attach to the side of your tank. It takes alot of the worry out of the whole experience if you arent fretting that the fry will get eaten!

I have read pinned topics, none have helped so far. I am not trying to start an argument so please don't be so harsh.

By step-by-step I mean what do I need, I only have a heater and flter, and how to plant it. I will try to look for that plant. Thanks!
And yes, I have read that link.

Dude there are tons of pinned articles on co2 , lighting, water conditions, fertz. All of those need to be addressed before you can really start growing plants well, without them dying. Most peoples issues are they buy plants.. but they dont have the right nutrients for the plants and then they die, or they have like .5 wpg (watts per gallon) which does not give the plants ANY light pretty much.

This is somthing that can take years to master... i'v still not done it and i read and read and read. it's very expensive too, your asking us to make you a master within a matter of a day and it's not going to happen. This is a hobby where you have to be patient and if you cant be maybe it's the wrong hobby for you. We are certainly all here to help, but we cant give you knowledge unless you can first take the time to learn the basics.. by reading pinned articles..

Hi again,
I guess its not really as easy as just a quick easy guide. Growing plants in the aquarium isnt "easy". If you DO want to grow them and have a planted tank, and the pinned articles arent helping, try http://www.rexgrigg.com/summary.html or the rest of his site http://www.rexgrigg.com
Rex's guides are good because he is.... um, to the point ;)
I must PM him and make sure he doesnt mind me linking to him all the time...

Anyways, at the end of the day, if all you want is somthing for your fry to hide in, plastic plants will work, but otherwise get some egeria and just float it in the tank. Dont bother planting it even, the fry will use it regardless. I reccomend egeria because its probably the most widely carried plant, at least where I live, and it stays alive for a while even in bad conditions.

Let us know how the birth goes!
