i was thinking about adding a fluidized bed filter or a calcium reactors to my tank. I have almost 30 various corals (ranging from polpys, sps, lps, mushrooms, and clams.) i have noticed that with that type of load and the two large clams i have the calcium is always low. any ideas on these type of "extras" for the tank? the fluidized bed filter would be so i could add more fish (per navarre's suggestion i want to get some anthias)

You do need some way to supplement calcium and alkalinity. I have a peristaltic (IV) pump that I use to dose b-ionic, a balanced 2-part additive. Over time that becomes much more expensive than a calcium reactor.

BUT with Randy Holmes-Farley's recipe for a homemade 2-part additive, using readily available Dowflake and Baking Soda, I estimate it would be 3 years before I spend what I'd spend on a reactor and all the ancillary equipment that goes with it.

So I'm giong to keep dosing the addive even with my upgrade to a 150.

so do you use his method? it doesnt seem hard to make it up. just seems like you have to stay on top of it at first (testing) to make sure everything is in check. how has your tank re-acted to this?
