External Filters

Hi,
I have just purchased an external filter for my tank, however did not realise when I bought it that I needed 150cm head height between the base of the filter & the water level, I only have 100cm, (I actually think 150cm is a bit high), any way short of raising my tank or lowering the floor is there anything I can do to get the thing working.

I'm wondering if the 150cm, is the maximum head height, and not the required height.

Edit: What make is the filter?
