Hi all

Been looking at getting an external filter so I can get my ugly internal out but I'm now wondering how many LPH is too many.
The current internal is a fluval 4 (NOT a + just a 4) and the tank is about 64 litres.
I've been looking specifically at the APS filters and there's not much price difference between the 1k and 2k models, would the 2k be too much filtration / flow?

Thanks

I'd go ahead and get the larger filter, for the day will likely come when you want a bigger tank. You can adjust the water flow on canister filters.

I'd get the 2000/EF version, it can just about do 1200lph with no spraybar modules attached and the flow reduces drastically once they are added.

Maybe a drastic reduction would be needed, 1200 would be over 18 times an hour if my maths is right

Using all the spraybar modules will drastically reduce the flow from 1200lph, you will be lucky to observe ~800, while you can remove all the spraybars for the 4-footer.

Yeah I'll use them on.the small tank but not on the bigger one.

Guess id better start shopping around and pick a spot for.it :) can't wait

Do check the second hand market for tanks, there are some killer deals to be had out there... I bought my first 2 tanks new (Rio240 and then a Korall60 to use as a QT), my other 3 proper tanks (5x2x2; 48x12x15; 2x1.3x.175) cost just £95 in total, less than a quarter of the price of the first two! :fun:

Totally agree that second hand is the way forward as i bought my 5ft tank with everything & more for £280!! . Oh, which is my pride & joy i might add!!
APS filters i find are great as i run the 1400 on my 120 litre tank. Great build quality and easy to clean. Much better than the two Fluval 304's im running on my 5ft tank!!
Good buy in my opinion!!
