Allright lads.

I managed to get my Eheim external filter set up (after much hassle and stress). I would just like to ask; is the current meant to be weak with an external filter? I always imagined it would be roaring throughout the tank =/

The water will move, but its quite sluggish and not fast flowing at all. I was hoping for more of a stronger current =/

The out put will normally be half the stated value, as the stated value is when the filter has no media, just because it doesn't seem fast doesn't mean it's not effective, if you're using a spray bar then everything should be fine.

lol i was the same when i got my 1000lph aps. I was like is this it? Does the job so im not fussed....I wonder how much the spray effects flow rate?

Aye I've got the spray bar fitted vertically near the intake (had to due to pipe length restrictions). I assume the fact that theres water in the tubes + actual current suggests the things running fine?

not with EHEIM. they measure flow with a full set of (recommended) media. and all tubing (furniture) required. even so, they flow roughly 20% less than the box claim.

not a bit. but pointing it upwards will slow it, fractionally.

flow, and the appearance of flow, are related to tank size. my 50ukg has a REAL flow of 4.5-5x. but you wouldn't know it if you looked. reality is 250gph is not, really, that much flow, we just think it is. lol.
