Any recommendations for a small external filter for my Fluval Ebi 30l aquarium? At the moment there is not enough flow for the filter to pick any debris up!

I've got another tank running a Fluval 205, but thinking to upgrade it to a 306, and then put the 205 into the Ebi, but I'm thinking it would be too big to do so.

Any thoughts?

Did you get an external for your 30L?
What do you have in it?

I am currently looking to replace my internal in my UFO350 (which is also 30L) as I find it is always full of gunk!  Currently it is running an Aqua Internal 100, which should have been enough, but there is just not enough media to deal with the waste IMO.  Plus, not to have hardware in the aquarium is far better I believe.

My shortlist was the Aquael Mini Kani 120 External Filter, however, on further investigation it appears that parts are not readily available.  I am now seriously considering the TetraTec EX400 (10-80L), which I have located for £49.90, which interestingly is the same price as the EX600!  Although I prefer to over-filter my fish would feel they were in a washing machine with that model!

From my research it appears the TetraTec is a good filter.  Others may think differently, however, they are German made, like the Eheim's but a little less pricey.  Plus a number of reviewers have said they prefer them to the Eheim, I have two Ecco Pro's as well as an APS on other aquariums, but wanted something not too expensive.

Think I may just go ahead and order, the sooner I do, the sooner my fish will be happier, yet to see a fish smile though.

Am sure a tetratec EX 400 or even a 600 on a 30 litre tank will be fine, I have a tetratec EX 1200 on my 90 litre tank!!

As long as it has control valves, and spraybar nozzle holes can be enlarged to reduce amount of flow as well if you wish, so you can easily adjust the flow to suit your set up.

Mine is turned down to about 35 - 40 % output flow, I have threadfin rainbowfish and they like gentle/weak flow and they are absolutely fine, no struggling against current or anything like that at all.

No such thing as overfiltration IMO

Thanks, I actually ordered the EX400 and it is on its way.  I may regret it and wish I had got the 600, but hey ho.

I have a 215L tank currently running a filter in the hood, as well as an APS external, which gives me a headache every time I need to maintain it.  Thus if I am happy with the Tetratec I may well get a larger version for that, and of course, will buy the bigger than required for such a large tank.

What did you eventually put in your 30L for filtration?

I actually upgraded my 150l tank with a Fluval 306, so my Fluval 205 went into my 30l, but found it was too powerfull, so I stuffed the filter full of media, and a coarse sponge over the intank!
