I am looking for an external filter but have very limited funds. At present I am running 2 x Fluval 3 internals and would like to replace these. I have 2 bigish plecs in the tank and several other big fish so would like to over filter a bit too.

Any recommendations? Looking around the £50 mark.

Thanks

For that kinda money you will have to look for a seccond hand one (or two) IMO, unless you go with a "lesser" make.

2nd hand would be fine. Not bothered about make as long as reliable and well made.

Well then I suggest you have a trapse through ebay, or look in local papers etc.
Eheims are the best IMO/IME. There are various threads in the hardware section about debates between manufacturers.

i think this looks good on ebay

one of my lfs shops does second hand filters,,,they had a fluval fx5 for £60.....thats good.....with your plecs id reccomend maybe buying the biggest you can get and also running the internals as well :good:

With externals I wouldnt trust anything but Eheim, and definately not some brand that ive never heard of, I could just imagine poor quality seals breaking and pouring the contents over the floor...Ive heard bad things about all companys of external filter manufacturers spilling, but never eheim.

Eheim isnt the only external filter out there on the market thats decent fluval and tetratec filters are good aswell. If you put a fluval fx5 up against a pro3 both have there advantages over the other I went with to fx5`s rather than the pro3 so all that nonsence about only trust eheim is crap.
