Ok so next month I get a bonus in my pay and I'm deciding to buy an external filter for my 130L planted tank but I have no idea what kind to get so let me hear your suggestions please :D

Says up to 400L and is half the price of what I thought I would need to pay, seems too good to be true. Would it be too much of an overkill do you think?

+2 for APS filters! I started with one and now have three :)

Generally as long as your total water volume is turned over once per hour then your generally ok. x10 is recommended for planted set-ups where CO2 and nutrients need to be pushed all around the tank for optimum growth. So as long as you have that vital x1 your fine, obviously anything more is beneficial. I like to aim for x5 as guide.

I installed the APS 1000+ this weekend in a 60L tank. Given its rated for 1000lph I was slightly concerned it would cause a tidal wave. Tested it in the sink and it was fine, so installed it. Frankly, its absolutely fine. I have put a decent amount of media in there which probably cuts the rate to maybe 500lph. With the wider spray bar on the current is very gentle, with the half size spray bar there's some decent current on the surface (but only about 15-20cm wide) but the substrate level is only gently moving. Plus the filter is so big I've probably added 15% more water into my system!

Priming wasn't the best, and the inch wide hoses are pretty stiff and hard to handle, but otherwise so far so good.
