Hi All,

For those who helped me on the "mystery" of the ammonia readings, i think i have a breakthrough.

(still experimenting with test kits to confirm), however, after i treated my tap water with tetra aqua, aqua safe, from the main bucket i use, it came up as about 1ppm ammonia.

Now this reading didnt come up right away, or after 10 minutes. i forgot about it and went back to it about an hour later...

im now doing tests using a different product, and at each stage of the water transfer process to eliminate the containers themselves, and the other water ager.

for those who dont know, ive had my tank for about 14 weeks now and change the water every 2 days..and the ammonia doesnt seem to change much at all.

its always there, and around 0.75-1ppm..occasionally more...

the water is perfectly clear, fish healthy and growing..

also, many people suggested i had my tank overstocked. i've only got 1 oscar and 1 convict in there now and have rolled back the feeding big time, and the ammonia readings are no different.

straight out of the tap there is no ammonia...

has anyone experienced this with the water ager im using?- its a gel type product made in germany that froths at first, then settles.

im figuring that ive been having false positives for a long time...BUT...i still have never had a nitrite or nitrate reading...could it be effecting that also?

still some unanswered questions i guess...

What's the water ager?

My take is that when you've got something strange like that going on, it would be good to completely switch away from the chemical in question. I, for one, am not clear on the exact names, purposes and amounts of the different chemicals you are apparently putting in there (but I can't remember the previous thread probably.)

Ive been using Tetra aqua safe and my ammonia levels are nothing like that. That's really unusual. Try changing water conditioners if you think thats what it is, see if it makes a difference.

update:

i think im narrowing it down...it appears that it isnt the ager now..but a container...sigh.

i might have to conduct a dozen or so experiments to sort it...i thought i had it sorted...something made the ammonia test positive...

urrghh..
