Lovely wood addition - better balance.

Have you considered swapping the broad leaf Hygro for something finer? It would make the tank appear larger and IMHO would improve the lushness of the whole scape.

Shame about the helferi - algae magnet?

I agree with GF, that could work. Is rotala too light demanding? That has finer leaves but not to the point of being thread-like. It also has very dense growth.

Oh, and about the moss, I'm talking abou the moss wall, not the moss on the wood. Of course the moss on the wood is growing great, but the moss wall is going to be a challenge.

Looks pretty wicked from where Im sat :) nice one pseud. In fact looks more than wicked, the more I look at the more i like it, really well balanced, just needs to fill out a bit :)

One point re the moss wall, would it help to slant it slightly? I.e. move the bottom side further into the tank and lean it against the back? Might help get light to the whole surface? Then when it's filled out you could stand it up straight? Just a thought

Thanks for all the compliments!

I still have a little more work to do, rearranging some of the midground plants a little. The blyxa isn't placed to be used to it's full potential for example; the crypts need to fill out a lot too.

As for the C. helferi, I took it out to see what the tank would be like without it and with some wood. I originally intended to put it back in if there was room, or a spot where it would look good.. but it turns out that really it doesn't compliment the layout so I have no need for it.

As for the moss wall, I really think that the holes on the top grid are too small, so i'm currently snipping away at another grid while waiting for the moss to grow again. Also, I seem to have a mixture of different mosses in the tank.... hard to tell but there's possibly Christmas Moss, Weeping Moss, Java Moss, and Java moss... I trimmed the moss on the wood on the right and screened it before tying it to the wood on the left. I'll wiat for this to grow out then use it as a supple for the next moss wall.. I'm fairly sure it's christmas moss.

George, I like that idea... but what slow growing, fine leaved plants would you recommend?

How about? -

Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata
Ludwigia arcuata
Tonina fluviatilis
Eusteralis stellata
Eichhornia diversifolia
Rotala sp. ''Green''
Rotala sp. ''Nanjenshan''

The Rotala is faster growing but still a lovely plant.

Some nice suggestions... More than likely I'd go toward Tonina.. and maybe even 'Belem'... but I don't know how well it would do in a 55 with 130w of light... might just melt. If it's any indication other high light plants such as Alternantha Reineckii have just stopped growing and the leaves turned paper and started to wilt... so I'm not sure...E. diversifolia looks nice too... kinda similar to Tonina.... maybe I'll try and get hold of a sample of each and see how they do...

I love your latest top photo of 19 March - it's looking really great and you can really see the wonderful progress over the past months. Well done

Thanks Bloozo, appreciate it... just a LITTLE more work to do...

A few more weeks on, a few more minor changes. Still more growing out to do with the H. corymbosa background. Had an issue with the E. triandra and most of it died off so I uprooted, salvaged what I can and replanted. Lobelia Cardinalis is growing wonderfully. Been spreading the weeping moss around, waiting for it to fill out again; need to retie the moss on the large driftwood.

Anubias coffefolia - so called for it's 'coffee' colored new leaves. Caught this one a little late so it's already starting to green =\

Looking good mate, still needs a bit of time to mature and fill out but looking pretty quality so far. I especially like the wood formation on the right, the leveled affect looking cool

Thanks guys, this tank is definitely gonna keep looking better as it continuous to grow and fill out. My only concern is to the right of the large piece of driftwood. I feel like there's an empty space there that needs to be filled (midground) but I don't know what with..... suggestions?

As for the flame tetra, I just feed them regular flake food. All of my fish get a weekly treat or so of frozen brine shrimp, but other than that nothing special. They've always been that orangey-red color, that's what I liked about them. Beautiful contrast against the greens.

Not necessarily, I like that there is a little empty space in the middle, especially with your black background. I love the overall color scheme, very pretty, and your equipment is almost hidden.

:good:

I would agree, to be honest I cant work out where you mean, so thats a good sign that its all looking good :) Think you've got the balance spot on :)
