Ever Use This For Fry?

I have 4 guppy babies that I scooped out of the main tank they are so cute it's been many years since I raised any fry. I had luck with mollys when I was 16. Anyways I bought this cool breeder box that pumps In water from the main tank constantly. It's pretty neat.

Anyone have this or used it? I just set it up this morning so far it is really great. The sound from the bubbles going up the tube is kind of annoying but or well.

I wish I had this for other fry. I never had much luck with fry something always goes wrong. With this not much can happen.

It looks like an air driven HOB filter from the 1970s with the filter material removed. One of the people in my fish club brought a sample to a meeting. It looks like a handy way to deal with not having a separate filtered tank for your fry. The water changes in it constantly since it continuously introduces water from the main tank.

Yeah I like it a lot because instead of keeping them in a small 5 or 10 gal. This is basically an extension of my 80gal so that's a lot of water being filtered by a canister. I think for me this set up is better then setting up a small fry tank.

That looks really cool, and I could have done with that a couple of weeks back.
But how secure is it?
I have 4 kids and a crazy dog so if it moves with the slightest knock it's no good for me lol.

Not secure enough that a bump from the dog or children wouldn't dislodge it.

they look really good i have been using my sump tank. but will these traps fit if you have a stress bar around tank

On an 80 gal. It fits the rim just barely. I will take photos.

As for being secure. I have 3 dogs and a 3 year old daughter. I hang this on the back of the tank out of site and reach. No problems. It is just as secure as a HOB filter. Because that's basically what it is.

Ainsy, we all used HOB filters like that a few decades back and since it was hung on the back of a tank it never presented any problem with kids or dogs. The only down side to something like that was that sometimes it would need to be primed again to get the flow moving. The inlet tubing must always be kept full of water. When power filters came along, most of us gave up our air powered filters in favor of the "power filters" which does not mean there was anything wrong with the air powered ones really.
Compared to a simple breeding net or a breeder trap, this design is far superior in my mind.

So far so good here. Fry are doing well. Do you think I should try and clean out the poo? I figure it's not a big deal because it's constant filtered tank water going throw.

I just got started home from an American Livebearer Association annual convention. One of the speakers we had there is a commercial breeder. He maintains his single species tubs by making sure the water in those tubs is absolutely top quality but does not worry over much about sediment on the bottom of their 55 gallon tubs. He actually cleans out a layer several inches thick of fish waste and waste food in his tubs every few months. The point is that as long as the water flowing through a container is pristine, it simply does not matter that you have a build of fish waste, or even waste food. I even bought some of his wild type mollies at the convention auction because they were of absolutely incomparable quality. In almost any situation, the fish I bought would win an award in any competition, but to him they were simply typical fish.
