ok well i was looking through ebay to see if there was any good fish on there and funnily enough i found a fish i was looking for! it was "buy it now" so i thought, why not? now i know why not :grr:
a scobiancistrus aureatus (golden plecostomus) for £22.73 i thought it was a bargain. but funnily enough i have been charged for three of the things!!
in total, it comes to £90 something (including for postage and packaging) and ive been told im only going to receive one of these things!
has this happened to anyone else?

well i doubt that u hav bought 3 of them bcoz then you would legal hav 2 receive 3.

When u originally purchased u have probably overlooked the postage price!

If you paid for 1 item, and it was listed as 1 item, then there is no need for you to pay for it 3 times. The buy it now price is the price you should pay for the item that was listed. Do not pay any more than that.

my thoughts exactly. if it doesn't work the first time, the company do the process thing again. if it doesnt work then, they do it again. they've done it three times. probably because its my first item ever bought on ebay. my back is withdrawn because of it. i cant take any money out of it until all the £90 something is paid off.
i just need to get things sorted out with my bank and tropicalfish4u and i should be charged with one fish, receive one fish and not be in debt at all. its just really annoyed me :sly:

Feel free to put the ebay link up here.. I'm sure we can work out whats happened here by taking a quick look at the listing in question.

I've been undercharged :)! I got 3 panda corys for $5 instead of $10. I can't give you any advice about your incident though, sorry! D:

The buy now price is £22.73p plus £14.50p p&p making a total of £37.23p to pay.

The offer is for 1 fish & £22.73 + p&p. There is no mention of minimum qty.

Regardless of qty. ordered p&p is £14.50 therefore

2 fish total £59.96
3 fish total £82.69
4 fish total £105.42

So there is no way you should have been charged 90 odd pounds.

If you have been charged more then ask for a refund of the difference. If he doesn't return the excess then e-mail & telephone him a second time asking for a refund. If still no sucess then inform ebay & get them to sort it. You can leave neg. feedback if you still don't get the refund.

It is posible that he has not been able to check the payment & thinks you have been charged correctly. Please double check with the bank & give him some time to sort it before involving ebay or neg. feedback.

If you paid by credit card then contact your card company. They should be able to help you.

I've noticed people jacking up the shipping to recoup the cost of Ebay fees and/or Paypal fees. But next day air is not cheap to begin with  .

Im amazed that anyone with any expierience in fishkeeping would choose to buy a fish BLIND. When you buy a fish sureley you want to check its in good health before risking adding it to your collection of prized specimens! All those basic tips weve learned about buying fish go out the window (see below), This is a huge risk. I guess if you have a quarantine tank you might find the risk worth taking but I certainly wouldnt. Ive visited my LFS time and time again to view a fish before purchasing. IMO your LFS is where you buy your fish! No chance of getting overcharged either!

1 /Check for dead fish in the tank
2/ Choose the specimen YOU want
3/ Ensure fish is active with no clamped fins
4/ check for obvious signs of desease - White spots, Fungus, Bacterial patches
5/ Ask to see fish feed and discuss with staff
6/ If neccessary make return visit to check on fishes progress
7/ Transport fish with minimum of stress

Sorry i know this doesnt really help you with your e-bay problem (another good reason to to the LFS) but it has to be worth taking into consideration!

i have a quarantine tank. and that is where the fish would be going after the journey.
i have tried phoning the company but lastnight, after i finished work, it was at 7pm and today it is sunday and they said phone during buisness hours so maybe thats why they havent been answering but I should have been put through to some machine or something right?
so hopefully i can get the fish delivered tuesday, as this is the only day im not at work this week! :/

For some of us, the LFS isn't an option. Ours is rubbish, and I mean absolutely rubbish. I do use another one which is a daytrip out (which is incredibly difficult with 3 kids and college), but places like Trimar are one of the only options available to us. In an ideal world we'd all have LFS like yours where they will hold onto fish while you check them, or who will have a good and healthy variety. In this area, there is no such place, and we have to get our fish from somewhere.

Edited to add: Using the forums like this to find out via word of mouth if a mail order supplier is good is a valuable tool. For this reason I choose not to buy from Tropical Fish 4 U, as their fish are wrongly labelled and over priced. Trimar however was recommended and we have had good experiences with them.

I don't understand pinkdolphin_113, why would you send the payment if you knew it was around 3x the amount that you should be paying? To be honest, you should have checked the invoice before sending the payment, but I'm sure the seller will be co-operative with you, if you contact him/her about your problem.

Not only are all my LFS rubbish, if you look on Ebay or go to well-known online suppliers you shouldn't have a problem. I would guess a good 40% of my fish come from 'buying blind' over the internet. I have never come accross any problems, as long as the new fish are introduced into their new communitys correctly.
