Even Or Odd Numbers?

fish dont count. it makes no difference. as long as you have 5+ you would be good to go. some folks get away with 4 as minimum, with lots of plants and hideys.
there is no odd/even rule.
all the best.
cheers

Well I started with 4 and there was a little fin nipping but nothing worth reporting. But I have noticed since I added the 5th girl there has been no fin nipping; I then added a 6th girl as of Saturday and nothing since then either.

Gill why do you think odd numbers work better? I'd have thought in an odd number there would be one left out rather than in a even number set up; I'm new to sororitys. This is an interesting discussion :)

Just Personal Experience Odd Numbers = 1 at the top

so with even numbers are there 2 dominant ones? as in two big dogs that pester each other instead of their tankmates?
just doesnt make sense that it would have any relevance. IME-it doesnt matter odd or even.
just saying.
cheers

I've had it work with odd and even numbers of girls. My first sorority was nine females (in an 18gal tank...yeah, not doing THAT again...in my defense, it was my first time keeping anything other than a single male betta) and everything was fine. Right now, I have two females that survived when my 55gal tank went Chernobyl on me and they are perfectly fine together in their temporary home (a 20gL with the platies and swords that survived the meltdown as well). I have minimal fin-nipping from any of my girls and none of them are related. However, that being said, I have odd tanks that work for me, so I don't necessarily recommend my set up to other people. Whether or not you have two females or twelve females, the best idea is to provide lots of cover with plants and places for them to hide, like caves and such. That way your lower ranking girls will have places to go to get away from the alphas.
