After trying to rescue my little brother's cories (you can read what happened here http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=76311) one of the green ones hasn't moved since I've put him in. He has stayed in one spot, hasn't eaten, and his eyes look like they were pushed back into his head. Some pink flesh is showing where his eyes should be. They never were like that before. I don't know whether I should euthanize him, or keep him there. What do you think? And what would be the best most non-painful way to euthanize him? My boyfriend said to smash his head with a rock or cut it off with a knife? :-(

hmmm, sounds like u have a problem, uthenising fish is neva the nicest thing to do. I have neva had ur problem before but it sounds like he may need to be uethanised to me. I wouldnt smash his head in with a rock though! geez....

I wouldnt flush him either, but im not really full of ideas at the moment.....sorry

would your b/f smash his dog in the head with a rock?

Best thing to do is put him in a bowl with the fish tank water and then put it in the frezzer as the water drops in temp the fish will fall asleep and die peacefully.

No i dont think you should put it in the freezer!I heard it`s VERY stressful and a very bad way to die for a fish in euthanizing

I dont think freezing is the best way either.

If you did chose to freeze him, which i dont really think is right, use a plastic containeer not a "bowl" cause this is likely to smash.

Would you stick your dog in the freezer? :grr: I just wanted some advice. I read the pinned topic on euthanizing and it said to cut it's head off. :-( :-(

No i wouldnt put my dog in the frezzer, i would take it to the vet, im talking on proper ways to kill a animal.

Well in the pinned topic it says NOT to put it in the freezer as it is very stressful and painful for the fish. :(

yeah and there is also a pinned topic that says the FlowerHorn fish comes from a gourami, ask around abit more but do you really think a blade to the back of his neck isnt painful?

It probably is, but it would be a lot quicker than being put in a freezer and waiting until the water drops until I "fall asleep"

A simple way to euthanize is to place the fish in a small container of tank water and add several drops of benzocaine. Benzocaine is the ingredient in Anbesol/Oraljel (toothache pain relievers). Simply add several drops of Anbesol/Oraljel to the water and the fish will go to sleep almost instantly and die very quickly. I usually leave them in the container for an hour to be sure that they don't wake up and then dispose of the fish. It's very quick and a lot easier to handle (at least for me) then any of the other methods that have been discussed so far. You can also use clove oil in the same manner. I usually find it easier to find Anbesol and or Oraljel and it's a little less expensive.

Thank you Polardbear for the teething gel suggestion.
Unfortunately I have just had to use it for my beautiful Platy, but it did seem to take less than 5 seconds for him to be still.
