Euthanasia

If you use the pin or decapitation method, have all your equipment ready and move rapidly. Removing the fish from water is stressful. Good luck and sorry. SH

Thanks -- I didn't think I could do that--I could barely do the clove oil. Last night, day 5 of no eating and just laying on his side/back, gasping for air (gills wide open), I was rubbing the outside of his tank next to where he was laying. He barely lifted his head, but I just felt like he suffered enough. I hate to admit, he did seemed to stress for a few seconds in the clove oil/tank water, but in a few seconds, he was out. I left him in it for an hour, then put him in freezer. I figure, if vets use it to anesthetize them for surgery, they can't feel any pain then, can they? I don't think I could have held him to cut his head off, probably would've cut off my finger or something dumb like that.

In future just pick it up in your hand and thke it outside and throw it on the floor as hard as you can. Instant, painless death and no mess.

Best way for all types of fish except large catfish

As sick as he was, he still fought me taking him out of the tank--I don't think I could have held onto him--he is small. You aren't a fan of clove oil?

If a person takes out a fish to decapitate them, aren't they suffocating waiting for it to happen?

Some local fish stores will cut the head off for you, I had it done here.

I've heard of loads of methods

decapitate
flush down the bog
throw them in boiling water
throw them in freezing water
slam them on the floor
clove oil
natural death
take down the vets

I think they all sound cruel to me, apart from the natural death and vets

I read that putting in the freezer kills them yes, But they have 5mins in which they feel pain and suffer
