i have no clove oil(?) and cannot bear to chop off the head of what i class as part of my family.
what other options do i have please?

put it in a bag, take it ouside and hit it with a brick or some other thing like that

only other thing i could think of would be a ziploc baggie and then place the fish in the freezer.............Sorry to hear you have to do this to a member of your tank

Put ice cubes in a small bowl of water - add the fish - put into the freezer. It works very quickly - although there will be some who say, no, smashing them with a brick is better (shudders)... but for anyone squeamish, like me, that is not an option. I certainly couldn't do it!

putting the fish in the freezer is a long slow painful death... What I do is super quick and not messy or grusome like cutting heads or smashing with a brick which I could never do.

I put a small dish of water in the freezer untill it gets a thin layer of ice over top. then crack the ice and drop the fish in. It usually passes away within 5-10 seconds.

Keep the fish in for a few minutes even though they appear dead as I put a cory down this way and when I dropped it inthe toilet after i thought he was dead.....he started swimming around :(

You don't want to put the fish in the freezer...it is a horribly slow way to go. Put the water in the freezer until the surface freezes over. Take out the water, break the surface, and place the fish in the water. It'll be over almost instantly. I have also taken a cup of cold water filled it with ice cubes and let it melt down a bit then add the fish. Takes only seconds. Sorry to hear about your fish Spish. It always sucks to have to put one down. You are doing the right thing.

Yes, same thing as putting ice cubes in a bowl of water, adding the fish etc...it's a very quick method (and quicker than waiting for a bowl of water to ice over in the freezer, if you want to get the job done asap).

Not a nice thing to have to do whatever method you choose
