Beautiful and rare fish. They like to school so you were right to think of a group. They are quite delicate, but will grow very fast with good feeding. They come from fast flowing, well oxygenated streams. Unfortumately your tank is too small for them though, as they can get to 8" in the wild and it is most likely that they rarely get close to this in captivity because of cramped homes.

I suggest you read Collecting Tropical Fish in India by Vinny Kutty. It lists a few suggestions for tank mates, including Puntis filamentosus

correct me if i am mistaken but isnt it etroplus suratensis that get to 8" i thought canarensis max out at 3-4"

From what I understand, canarensis almost always max out at 4.5" in home aquaria (if given the space), but have the potential to grow larger in the wild.. I could be mistaken, though.

its always the case with aqauriums though fish get such a size in the wild but never do in aqauriums unless given the right space i will be getting them at around 1" so i am assuming 3ft is plenty room for them to grow and thrive my filter is a JBL cristal profi e900 so that turns my tank over around7 times i think so filtration and flow is high, and as always i have room for 4ft tank next to my 75gal so maybe in the future i can upgrade if they outgrow.

Also, I think Etroplus suratensis grow, again, larger still? Closer to 1ft?
