has anyone seen or used these? Im thinking about one of these for when I set up the new tank. Wondered if anyone had used them to no good effect.

These are very common in planted tanks setups, they are mainly used for aesthetic reasons to keep equipment out of the tank but they also provide more even distribution of heat throughout the tank.

In order for them to work correctly they must be positioned verticially at all times, they will also reduce the flow rate of whatever cannister filter you use with them, although i believe because the heater is tubular in construction the water passes through them and flow rate isnt reduced significently, i havent read any bad reports by people that own them or significient issues with them, i would say overall they have a very good reputation and are very reliable.

Thats good to hear, I think I will give it a shot on my new tank. I want to put it on the return line from the sump just because it would be nice to be able to fiddle with the heater without getting my hands wet

I have been playing with a hydor one at work and its not to bad but i did find if u use over sized filters (external) the water doesnt heat up as well unless you use a oversized heater other then that they spread heat around the tank alot better then normal tube heaters
