I moved filter media over from another tank to add to new sponges in a new tank. Do I need to wait 6 weeks to clean the filter or can I rinse it all out every week?
Thanks for any advice.

I'd wait 2 weeks until messing with things unless you notice restricted flow or something else out of the ordinary

Wait 6 weeks so the beneficial bacteria can stick to the new media. If you clean the new filter materials before 6 weeks, you can wash the good bacteria off and it will take longer for them to attach properly.

I definitely misread this the first time around. Did you use all established media, new media, or a mixture of both?

Mixture of both as the new tank is bigger and I didn't have enough established media to fill the filter. The water has stayed at 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite.
