Er... ####

don't do the above (alwaysforlora's comment) will shock you fish if you raise the temp suddenly like that may even lead to death i pulled some mountain minnows back from near freezing water

slow and steady! Good luck and hopefully nothing happens like this again. Thankfully though since the temp lowered slowly just as it raised slowly i dont think the fish would have experienced any shock.

Some days i wish i could just turn down the temp around here and take a slow down lol. Wait it's minus 25 C today :D

hope everything is well soon

how's it shocking them , if theres cold water in the tank at like above 17oC and you add say 22oC water it wont shock them just do it gradually.

thats a 5oC differenc in water temperature i dont think they wouls appreciate that. even if you added small amounts slowly i dont think you could do it slow enough. better off just letting the heater do it i think. But thats IMO

on a saftey note
those 3way bricks are one of the biggest causes of house fires out there, IMHO they should be banned.
get yourself a trailing socket as they are far safer, soon.

guess on adding warmer water depends on the volume of water, a bucket of say 10litres of warm water (5oC more than the tank temp) added to a 30gallon isnt going to make the water rise by 5oC in the tank . Heating it with the heater would be best but depends on how cold the water is and what fish are in it...

Didnt even realise you could still buy them ..

i recently had a similar thing happen with jambo`s tank, i put in a little hot water then let a new heater do the rest, its a scarey time and i hope all goes well..

lose the 3 way adapter!!! lethal things.. i dont even own one and wouldnt.... messy cables are so much safer ;)

hope everything is ok keith

shelagh xxxxxx

I have read that the way to increase tank temp is to increase the thermostat by no more than 1 degree per hour - slowly does it, as has been said by a few already (and which I think you already know).

Since its only a 25w heater i took from 4-11 to get from 17-23. Im at 25 now and all fish are happy and eating! Thank you for all of your help.

I didnt realise the 3 way bricks were so lethal? This one is really new and even has switches on it.

to point with the bricks is, heat builds up in a concentrated area and this can lead to one or all of the plugs melting
thus causing a fire. you only have to ask any fireman or go on a 'health and safety' course for any employer and you will
be told, or even shown, how bad these things are.
they are designed for temporary use only and not for a permanent fix to plugging problems. trailing sockets are far safer
as they allow a greater airflow around each plug
