Enter Now

It's time for Fishforums bimonthly Fish of the Month Contest. This month we are featuring all freshwater fish but are especially seeking oddballs. If you have that species in your household, we hope will enter one of them into the contest.
Please note that if you won a previous FOTM contest, you must skip one FOTM contest before you can enter a different fish in another FOTM contest.

RULES:
A picture (no videos) uploaded via our "attach files" tool with a handwritten note held in front of the fish stating "October 2026 TFF FOTM" is required to validate your entry. If you wish, you may also post a second recent picture without the note attached. If you do post a 2nd pic, that will be the pic that will be used for the poll. The picture(s) should focus on one fish.
Upload the picture(s) in FULL SIZE using upload controls in "reply" area.

  • UNDER the picture(s), post any information about the fish such as species, age, tank mates, tank size, name you gave it , unique traits, feedings, etc.
  • Submit the entry
  • Latest date for you to enter the contest is October 24th at 4 PM ET or once we have 12 entries--whichever comes first. Any entry posted after we have 12 entries will be deleted and they will be asked to enter the next FOTM contest.
  • Winner will be decided by fellow members via a poll which starts after the entry period has ended.
  • Please note: you are not allowed to have friends or family join TFF for the main purpose of voting for your entry
What do I win?

  • You will get a cool banner in your profile area noting that you are a winner of Fish of the Month.
  • Your winning entry will be showcased in a "FOTM Winner" thread where members can congratulate you.
  • Your winning entry will be added to our Wall of Fame
You are allowed to change your vote if you wish.
Comments about any specific entry are not allowed and will promptly be deleted. This thread will be cleaned up frequently for readability.

Phenacogrammus aurantiacus (Gold Blue-Eyed Congo Tetra or Lampeye Congo Tetra).

This pic is of one of my shoal of 9 males (2.75”- 3.0”) in my 75g tank along with a shoal of 12 male P. interruptus ( [regular] Congo Tetra). This male is probably around 2 years old as I got him last winter as an adult after searching all over for a supplier of these guys. All the fish get along well and, besides a few corydorus, are the only fish in the tank. They are active, playful, and rather voracious eaters. They readily eat various pelleted foods, flakes, and absolutely go crazy for freeze dried blackworms. I will add that I have aggressive filtration…..2 Fluval AC 110 HOBs with baffles and a Surf 2 floating Algae Scrubber in a 4g sump with a sock and extra Matrix and Biohome media. I also do regular 40-50% WCs.

Entering my 'odd one out' Red Cherry Tetra (Hyphessobrycon sp.Muzel). This fish was alone in a tank with other tetra species at a local store. I picked it up and added it to the 11 I already had. Weirdly enough, the colouring on this fish is a lot more prominent than the other 11, which made it unique in my 90L tank. No idea of the gender, as these fish can be tricky to tell, especially at younger ages. These fish are fed NT labs microcrumb and Hikari Micro Pellet, along with occasional frozen foods.

This is a powder blue Mikrogeophagus ramirezi born on April 27, 2026. He lives with his mate in a 20 gallon long accompanied by N. marginatus and Hemigrammus erythrozonus. Ram enjoys Repashy grub pie, live BBS and Fluval bug bites.

This is my ninja wood cat (Tatia musaica). I've had him for about two years now. He's kept with other Amazon catfish and peaceful schooling fish in my 125l tank. He only comes out during feeding but I do see him quite often in the rockwork. He's really quite fun to watch and is quite personable.
Fun fact ninja wood cats practice internal fertilization akin to that of a livebearer although they don't give birth to live fry.
