Endlers are here!!

Hi, the females are bigger than the males, grow to about 1.5" The look simialr to female guppies, but have no colour in the tails. They rent anything next to the males, overall off whiteish colour.

i met get some, are they cheap or expensive? ive never seen them for sale

Maestro....they are not expensive.....the trick is tracking them down.

I was lucky to pick up a pair at the weekend from another member on here.

Fishyfeet had some, but I don't know whether she has any more (there was a thread in the For Sale section).

My question would be..........is there any way of telling the females from the different strains?

The males have different colouring, but they females look very similar.

And does it matter if different colour strains of Endler (not Guppy) mix?

Oh I see. I dont think it is easy to tell female strains, i am not sure if any have had coluor bred in to them.

I guess people who develop the strains know what the females are because the strains are kept in different tanks.

Mixing strains of Endlers isnt a bad thing biologically, the more heterozygous they are the better for ensuring their future survival.

Creating strains is selective and reduces genetic diversity with in the particular fish. I do not mean to say creating strains is a bad thing, just that mixing strains isnt bad from the biological perspective.

Ofcourse if you want to maintain certain colour forms, you would not want to keep them with other types.

If you want nice colours, get guppies and line breed them.

If you want many colours in your tank, mix strains of endlers together.

But endlers are endangered and i feel it is a owners responsiblity to not line breed and reduce the genetic diversity as Prof endler said there were 16 colours of endlers ,but only about 5 found in aqua trade .People are line breeding them.
