I'm thinking of getting some one male two females. I read they grow to be 1 inch, so what is the smallest tank to get for 3 of these?
Also I read they have interbreeding with guppies and these will produce unfertile fry, how to tell if an endler is needs with a guppy and not a true endler?

Thanks :)

I keep mine in a 45 gallon tank and a 20 gallon tank. Mine have increased their numbers quickly to a level where the population in the tanks is near the maximum that the tanks can hold.
Crossing endlers with guppies does not result in sterile fry. The fry are quite capable of breeding with the parent fish or each other. Some very interesting crosses have been developed by skilled breeders such as Adrian Hernandez. Many more crosses have been done by amateurs either by accident or on purpose and have resulted in less than ideal fry.
I would guess that a 5 US gallon tank would be big enough for a small breeding colony of endlers. There is no such thing as a non-breeding colony unless you have a tank full of all males.

This was actually posted by my friend who i allowed into my account. I will inform them about this thank you for responding.

My current project is to hybrid the 2 species in order to replace my own ageing fancy guppies, I can let you know how it goes :)

ahh cool that will be great :)
so I went to one of my lfs and they didn't have endlers only guppies, so going to wait and see when I can go to another shop.

It is much easier to find endlers in a fish club than in a fish shop Omega. There are tons of folks like me who have a surplus most of the time, but fish shops do not seem very interested in them. I suspect most fish shops order fish that they know will sell well and don't take many chances with less common fish.
