last night i advertised my cichlids and within 2 hours they were paid for and collected

all except keith :hyper:

so now i have a 6.5x2x2 with just a big oscar in a couple of catfish and a BGK. i am now on a mission to add a few other fish to give the tank a bit of life again......

i am going to view a trio of diadema this morning, yes i know ive just sold one but i thought 4 might be too many  i wasnt liking the fact that there were so many fish in the tank and wanted to thin the stocking down or exchange for smaller species.

i was thinking of a group of 4-5 x 6 inch max fish like elliottis, rainbow cichlids or firemouths etc etc but will need to source adult fish as keith has a big old mouth in him

if i dont get the diademas then what can you guys think of to add to the tank? :good:

just to add the fish dont really have to be cichlids but must be able to handle being in with Keith. he isnt a nasty fish but he does have a big mouth when needed

not silver dollars though......

Matt, I suspect you will get bored with more diademas, as you've only just got rid of one. Don't rush into it.

How about a group of about 6 geos ? Personally, I'd go with the Satanoperca genus, as they are far less "bickery" than any of the surinamensis complex species. They also "eartheat" more. Good, sturdy fish too, that would easily cope with an oscar. I love them. They are real characters in the aquarium. Personally, I find surinamensis/altifrons etc rather characterless.

Then there's always my perennial suggestion of a chocolate cichlid.

Salvini are also another option. A full size oscar like Keith should be able to lord it over them with ease.

What about a female Nicaraguan cichlid? A firemouth would also work, as would a Jack Dempsey.

could well be a risky addition but looks like youve just about got space for a jag :hey:

You're not allowed to regret it already, I'm sure you got a decent price for such beautiful fish anyway.

It's always best to move on to bigger and better things. Yes, bigger now you have the space! :D
Although Keith is a star.

after a lfs tour today i was pretty dissappointed to find nothing of a decent size to add in with Keith

but as a few of you may have read in my other posts we are having our garage turned integral to the house and are buying 2 new shiney tanks.... 1 will be 5x2x2 and the other 6x2x2. my plans are now to put Keith and the current stock into the 5x2x2 and the putting the ornatums into the 6x2x2. this will give the ornatums much more room as there are 6 of them and an EBJD and Keith will be more than happy with a 5x2x2 pretty much all to himself :hyper:

i very nearly bought home another oscar today too

mark they had a huge jag for sale too that was stunning but too risky i felt. they also had 2 peacock bass which i would love to give a home but fear in time they would get huge  one day.......

so quite happy in the end that i couldnt find anything suitable as i wouldnt want to put much else in with Keith in a 5x2x2 tbh :good:

sounds like a sensible plan tbh . thats the trouble with jags , amazing fish but a bit like russian roulette as far as tankmates gos.

i was really excited as well this morning with the possibility of getting new fish

but doing it this way will mean we dont have to keep moving fish from tank to tank and most of all keep moving the 6.5x2x2 as its bloody heavy....... it also means that Keith can move into the house before the work on the garage starts and his current tank can go as soon as he is moved :good:

its probably the more boring way as it involves no new fish but its the most practical and all the fish will be better off.

so now i can look forward to ordering my 5x2x2 for Keith :hyper:
