Hi, Im currently fighting a bout of Ich in my tank, raised the temp to 30c, but the fish were extremely unhappy with it, so have lowered to 28c. Tanks stats, 0 for ammonia and nitrIte, ph 7.4, nitrAte 20. Running two external filters, breaking surface of water to increase oxygen, also added an airstone.

So far, Ive lost a texas cichlid and a Giant Danio, however, Ive now noticed a red eye tetra with his bottom missing and a large mass protruding from it, its a red mass.

I need to medicate for internal bacteria, what I need to know is, can I mix with protozin (which Im using for the ich)? What med do you recommend for the internal bacteria, I was going for Interpet, but I also have myxazin on hand (but I dont think it treats for what I need it to?)

In the tank are Severum, Giant Danios, Geophaugs, Tetras, Bichirs and also a Black ghost knife fish (scaleless fish).

Wilder or anyone else know, please answer asap. Many thanks in advance.

Dilute the med down with a water change. Have you used the full dose of whitespot med.

The only uk med you can mix with a bacterial med is esha exit, and esha 2000.

Do you mean the anus of the fish.
The red mass does it look like an organ, like the intestines, or tumour.
Are there any white bits in the red mass, description wise. Looks like mince meat.

Full dosing protozin, yes, it doesnt effect the ghost knife, its the only med he seems to tolerate.

Yes I mean the anus  Half of its anus is missing, the red mass is like mincemeat with white flakes in it? Its doesnt look like an organs protruding out. Also to add, he is bloated.

Esha exit or esha 200, ok will try to find some, never seen any around.

If it looks like mince meat it's a sign of thread worms.
How much of his bum is missing.
It might be kinder to put him out of his misery if his bum missing.

Have you noticed any internal parasites signs.
Being bloated can be a sign of internal parasites.
or his organs have packed in, bless him.

Is it possible to load a pic up of him onto the site.

Hi minx sorry to hear whats going on :(

Was going to suggest the Esha stuff as well, most maidenheads carry it not sure if you have any around you? The boxes are quite small and cube like with bright colours and really bad drawings of fish on them

Good luck Ive got everything crossed for you :)

Will try to get pic, right now Im trying to keep my Vieja alive in a QT tank.

Noticed no signs of a problem, I added new fish last week, one the Vieja, who has no signs of Ich or internal problem, but starting flicking Thursday and hasnt eaten since he arrived (week last wednesday). He still has no spots on him, but he is lying down barely breathing, I assumed the Ich was in his gills and now having seen this tetra, he has possible internal parasites.

None of them were bloated yesterday and today its just this tetra with the bloating. Pretty much all his bum is missing, it looks like its been clean bitten off  Hadnt noticed until now, but was trying to sort the ich out and not taking much notice of the tetras as they had no signs of it.

Wills, thanks, nearest MA is in Telford, 20 miles away, wont make it before they close today, will go first thing tomorrow morning.

Poor thing.
You probably already no this, but is always wise to issolate new fish for 4 weeks.

I would dilute the med down abit with a water change, as some fish might not be coping to well with the full dose.
You really need temp at 30. Fish can handle it if there plenty of aeration in the tank.

Is there any spots on the fish.
As flicking and rubbing, fish can also do this with internal parasites.

Yep all fish are flicking/rubbing, most have some spots on them, mainly on the tails, the only fish showing no signs of a problem are the bichirs and ghost knife. I know the temp needs to be up, but I figured the temp was doing more harm than good, because the central american fish, the texas (now dead) and Vieja, just cant tolerate temps that high. Plus my large severum was trying to jump out the tank last night as he doesnt like it. Will do a25% w/c asap.

Im stuck between a rock and hard place, raise it and beat the ich quicker or keep it slightly lower and stop the fish from going nuts with the heat.

It sounds like the internal parasites have burst out.
Poor fish.
A pic might help to determine if its internal parasites.

Need to see the damage.
To be honest it's not sounding to good for the fish.
You will know what to do. As when you kept fish for a while you know when a fish is passed saving.

Fish keeping can be heart breaking at times.

Not a great pic, but best I can get

Can't make much out i'm afraid.

There used to be a good pic of thread worms on pandora site. But the site no longer exists.
I wished I have saved the pic now.

All I can say for now is try doing a search on thread worms, to see what you come up with.
