Do all electric yellows have black dorsal fins (the ones on their back) Cause I have seen some that are all yellow no black. Also when do they get this black line???
Labidochromis Caeruleus comes in a few different varients, depending where in the lake they are, including the yellow w/ black, pure yellow, and pure white. The black stripe variety have become the staple for the hobby, and they pretty much have the stripe from from as small as 1/4".
I understand this isn't the breeding forums, but its still on subject about this type of fish. How do you know if this fish is a male or even a female. Also, when they breed, how do they breed and where do they hide their eggs? And after they've hid their eggs, does one of the parents protect the litter?
males tend to get black anal and ventral fins as they mature but even then less dominant males will not..so its pretty difficult. its usually easier to tell by behaviour or venting.
they don't hide the eggs. they are mouth brooder so the female will carry the eggs in her mouth untill they hatch and then carry the fry for a couple of weeks untill she releases them.
they do not protect their fry at all. dad would love to snack on them given the change.
