can somebody tell me what conditions these fish like and how big they can grow ?
by the end of this month i will have sorted out my tank so that its all planted, as long as this type of fish wont mind a quite heavy planted tank ?
after my tank is sorted i was looking into buying a pair of these and maybe upping the number of harlequins in my tank

any help and advice is much appreciated :good:

They are a color morph of German blue rams and grow to around 5 inches, they like higher temperatures aroud 28c and are peaceful.

I don't know what kind of steroids you give your fish, but rams only tend to be 3 inches long.

German Blue Rams/Electric Blue Rams/Gold Rams Are all the same thing, and they are very fussy about water conditions. People often have troubles keeping them alive, even with routine water changes and utmost care. They like the water to be a bit acidic, 6.5 is most preferred, and the water temperature in the low to mid 80's, which will limit your stocking.

Best course of action is to try for a breeding pair after your tank is fully matured, and hope for the best, really.

Most of the rams ive seen are around 4-5 inches.

My bolivian rams topped off at about 2.7 inches. I've never seen them any bigger than that. And the mixed knowledge of the forums and other websites saying they top at 3 inches, I'd have to see it, next to a tape measurer, to believe it.

Are you sure your fish don't get pumped with roids? I need to know, just to disqualify them if they're trying to cheat at baseball or something.

LOL when i next see one, ill do that.

5 inches is a serious giant... 3 inch max

Here are the essential steps to keeping rams long term
1) use peat in your filter
2)keep your Ph low 6.5 or less
3)keep your water soft (i.e kh of 1 degree)
4)if possible use RO water for your water changes
5)be careful what you come in contact with before touching their water or food, i have herd of cases where rams die because their owner used lotion two hours before cleaning the tank.
6)keep the water temp high (86)

When it comes down to it rams are a lot like discus but in my opinion more strict about their water quality.

Here is a pic of my pair
