We are going to buy a new 330 litre tank and are looking for advice on the best filter to run with it. We have been looking at the Eheim Wet/Dry 2327 which also heats the water and the Professional 3e which doesn't.
The obvious benefit of not having a heater hanging down in the tank makes us think that the Wet/Dry would be better, but it doesn't seem to have any mechanical filtration, only biological, although the blurb says that it's better at removing the pollutants (nitrite and ammonia), we are concerned that it doesn't appear that you can use carbon etc if needed. The Professional 3e on the other hand has the benefit of mechanical filtration as well as better controls on when it needs maintenance and adjustable flow control.

We are planning to keep Danios, Rainbows and a large, hungry pleco in there.

Could anyone with experience/views offer any advice on this?

Thanks in advance

The wet/dry filters seem to be more geared towards marine tanks afaik??

Any reason you have not looked at the pro 2 filters from Eheim?

We have the 2026 and just ordered a 2028, both models can come with heaters built in the bottom (2126 and 2128 respectivly) and we have not had any problems with them.

The 2028 is perfect for a tank that size and would be cheaper then the Pro 3 or the wet/dry I would think (well they are here in the land of Aus)

I never recommend the Eheim Wet/Dry filters as I have tried, and so too has the South East England Eheim Rep, and setting them up to work well and consistently for any period is a true black art.

Also, they don't give you the real joy of a true wet dry in that all you have to do is pull out the filter floss and rinse/replace without popping seals and the like.

Thanks for the input everyone. Interesting comments on the wet/dry.
In the end we have gone for the Professional 3e. As to the Pro 2 range Chris, I think the reason that's not under consideration is that my gadget man here likes to have the most recent technology
Thanks again for the pointer on CO2 Gandalf - we aren't planning on doing that so it shouldn't be a problem.

Hopefully starting the setup next week sometime....
