Eheim 2227 Help Please,have I Leaped

just bought a eheim 2227 wet/dry filter from Ebay, i think i got it at a bargin price of £20.00. Guy messed up the auction. Anyway, i always wanted an external filter as i have sand in my tank and it looks pretty horrible to be honest witht eh poo. Thing is i have leapt in here? is this filter suitable for my needs.


I require a decent flow to take away the fish poo and make the sand look more attractive. Have i made a good choice



also i do not want to recycle the tank as i have fish in there, can i use the filter media from the Juwel tank in the eheim 2227? if so does anyone know which tray to put it in
?



I currently have a Juwel 125lts tank and plan on removing the internal filter when i set this one up



any advice would be apprciated

I think with freshwater tanks, flow rate is the most important aspect, for this reason I'd use a classic Eheim or one from their pro series.

Having said that the 2227 is a big filter advertised as max filtration 600litres and you could move the media from internal into the external.

It should be fine on your tank. You can adjust the flow at the taps if it seems too rigorous.

Should be fine. As long as ur fish arent blowing all over, it will be good to have extra filtration. the mature media should ABSOLUTELY be moved over.

+1 and put it on the bottom, or nearest where the water first comes into the filter (usually the bottom).

it'll be fine. (could do with more flow, IMHO) but it will need cycled. run it alongside the current filter for a month or so (many would suggest less, but what's the hurry?) then wring/rinse the old media into the Eheim.
you will also need to go to the Eheim site, and download the instructions. then i suggest you visit as many forums as you can. and read everything about Eheim wet and dry filters, you can find.

its an exceptionally good filter. but a tad more fiddly than most to set up and run. however, once you are used to it. its no more difficalt than a sponge filter to run
