Eheim 2227 External Filter

Hey, Ive just picked up a second hand tank that I purchased off ebay.

My query is, the tank has been empty (with no water) since December, but was previously an established tank that had been running for a long time.

Included in this sale was an Eheim external with all the filter media that had previously been used. However, my questions are:

A. Due to the tank been empty for over a month, will the beneficial bacteria have died?

and

B. Will I need to cycle the tank from scratch as if it was brand new?

Yes to both, your looking at a couple of hours really of having a filter turned off. The bacteria needs a supply of flowing water and if the filter is actually dry its not going to have survived.

Well after purchasing 2 of the All Pond Solutions 1000lph externals, I'm thinking of selling the above filter. It didnt come with a spray bar, so after purchasing one online, I opened it up only to find that it didnt fit into the "shepperds crook" attachment.

They both appear to be exactly the same diameter. The spray bar is the 16mm version, and the shepperds crook is also 16mm. Is there some sort of screw connector that will attaach them together? or am I missing something?

Also, if anyones interested, I may be willing to sell it on here before putting it on ebay, but I need to make sure it works first. Just send me a PM if so.
