Hi all,

I've been setting up my new Juwel Lido 120 for the past three hours and haven't experienced a single hitch. However, it seems my Eheim 2224 External Filter doesn't want to play ball when it comes to powering up the tank. I can hear the quiet rotation of the pump, indicating it isn't totally bricked, but water doesn't appear to be flowing through the inlet/outlet tubes. Has anyone experienced this before? I will greatly appreciate feedback pointing me in the right direction.

Thank you,

Luke.

Sounds like trapped air possibly, are your pipes longer than needed? Mine were and when I tried to prime the trapped air wouldn't let the pump go. After cutting the hoses to size it primed and started fine!

The tubes are of perfect length, both routing straight from the top of the tank towards the filter tap without any kinks or loops.

Thanks,

Luke.

Has it got a shut off on top of the cannister? Also has it got like a screw off bit on the inlet side? If it has both of these shut off the taps to the cannister, unscrew the cap on the inlet side and fill the hose with water. Open the cannister tap shut off and the water should fill the cannister wait until you cant hear the water anymore then turn the filter on. You may have to shake the filter a bit to get any trapped air out!

I don't think I have a cap on the inlet tube. Though, I do understand your logic and think it would work otherwise. Might it help if I manually fill the canister with water and then power up the pump? Or would that just expel the amount of water in the canister whilst drawing air from the empty inlet tube? I'm feeling slightly bewildered right now.

Luke.

Ok in that case get the outlet tube/hose and suck on the end of it with the power off you should hear the cannister fill connect your outlet back up and power on the filter. The idea is to get the water flowing into the cannister to push any air out of the outlet. try that and well go from there but it should work!

Sorry, I have managed to get the filter going. I sucked on the inlet tube until water gushed all over me and then closed the shut off valve. I then connected the double tap, released the inlet valve and waited for the canister to fill with water before switching on the pump. I then released the outlet valve and the unit worked. However, 5 minutes later, I find I've rather flooded carpet. Back to square one I think.

Thank,

Luke.

I'm not entirely sure but it appears to be from between the canister and the pump. The most likely cause is the seal/gasket having perished. By any chance, do you know how hardy the Juwel stands are? A fair amount of water leaked underneath it so I'm hoping not a lot. I can't be doing with having to empty the tank just to flip the stand over and dry.

Luke.
