I originally tried to breed my purple/pink/white male Steve to my opaque girl Stella, but that didn't work out - Stella just wanted to play with the bubbles in the nest
So I swapped her with my blue/green girl Bertha - huge success! She showed vertical stripes straight away when added to her bottle. Then this morning I released her and they went straight into wrapping. Within no time, eggs were being released and placed into the bubble nest.
They were wrapping for 4 hours before Steve started to chase Bertha away. Neither of them got any fin damage as they didn't fight once :)
10-20 eggs were released each wrap, and this went on for 4 hours, so there are tons of eggs in the nest!
Bertha is now in her home tank with a tummy full of brine shrimp :)
Steve is adding to his bubble nest during his spare time - The bubble nest is 27cm long and about 15cm wide! Massive nest, and it keeps getting bigger too!
Hopefully in a few days I'll have little babies hanging from the nest :D

That is AWESOME!!! Please keep us updated! I would love to see some pictures of his nest!!!!!

Awsome can i just say though stella didnt like his nest thats why she kept trying to destroy it it wasnt good enough for her :) so she wanted him to rebuild it :)

Stella wasn't destoying the nest, she was just playing with the bubbles :D
Plus, her and Steve didn't get along at all... Which is why I removed her.

I'm so excited!
Maybe I'll write up a log or something and update it as the fry grow older :)
I'll upload a photo of his nest soon.

The nest continues underneath the piece of styrofoam too, he is still adding to it and it's much wider now :D

OMG that is sooooo awesome!!!!! I wish I could get mine to make a nest, I'm waiting on my lily pads to grow up so he will have some place to build one, my other betta tried to build one on the side of the tank but it just got washed away...

Last time I tried to breed Steve, he built his nest at the back of the tank where I couldn't see..
So this time I used a spoon to pick up a small part of his nest in his home tank, and transferred it across to the front of the breeding tank, and it worked great! He just built onto the nest from there. :)

I've heard of people putting plastic cups or Styrofoam cups into the tank for them to build on, is it necessary? Or should I just wait for my plants to grow up?

The cups are not necessary, it just provides another place for the male to build his bubble nest. You could wait for your plants to grow, but there is no harm in using the cup :)

Aw he is beautiful!
Do you have a female that would match well with him?
