Having spent the weekend discussing the conversion of my edge to marine, I'm now aware of the requirement for blue light and the effect ot has aesthetically on marine fish making them 'glow' or shimmer.

I'm curious as to the effect of blue light on FW fish. I have two T5 tubes in my large tank, juwel day and nature 24w tubes.

Could anyone tell me the effect of adding some blue LEDs to the mix? I've ordered two x 24 led strips and a 240/12v transformer from eBay.

Would the blue lights enhance and improve the look of the fresh water tank inhabitants?

I like the blue colour as well If you get it sorted could you post some pics?

I have a blue LED built in to my tank (Reefmax 60 convertrd to FW) I don't have any fish yet as I'm in a fishless cycle, the blue LED is timed to go on 12 hours a day (evening) and it looks amazing, the flow from my filter causes a beautiful shimmering all around in side the tank.

Course I will :) I'm not exactly sure what it will do, but I will need the blue for the edge eventually so I may as well see. If it looks good, they will stay.

Do you have white light too? Or just blue? Do you have any pictures of the white/blue mix as opposed to just white please? (if you have white)

I don't get any effect with both white and the blue LED, my tank has only one LED so having more may give a different effect, here's my tank running in night mode (one LED)

Thanks, that's looks like the kind of think I'm looking for.

I have some neon blue guppies, and plan on getting up to ten. In the store they were a very vibrant blue, I'm hoping to make them brighter with the led idea. We'll see!

Your tank is going to look pretty remarkable with the Blue LED's, I have another tank which has only a white light, I was looking in to the blue LED's off ebay as it looks dull at night, are the LED's the one's which can be used on cars as well ?

i had marine lights on my vision 450..and my fish looked a little odd to say the least

I like to have the blue LED's on at night, I haven't got any fish yet (Fishless cycle) so I don't know what the fish will look like with the Blue LED's ??

LEDs or 'moonlights' as they are often reffered to are lovely, theres more blue than white in them and i used to find they had a calming effect on the fish at 'bedtime' lol

20 mins on before switching off full tank lights one my one
