Eco Complete

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with Eco-Complete or know something like it,im planning on putting a layer of this stuff below my current substrate in the hopes that it will help my plants as right now there is only standard black gravel.

Another question and more likely the important one, is this stuff even worth putting in as I imagine the benefits are temporary, the tank is 2 months old and doing ok but not great in terms of plant growth. any help really appreciated

Didn't Tom barr use this in that huge aquascape with discus. He wouldn't have used something useless... Can't find the thread though

I think it'd be ok if it is eco-complete (he started with ADA aquasoil though)
