Hi all,

I have an Eclipse HEX 5, 5 gallon tank. Does anyone else out there have this tank but with a heater installed? If so, what heater and how does it install?
I know this is a small tank to have a heater but this tank is going to college with me and it gets pretty cold in the winter where I am going to college (Utica, NY).

Any help help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

I have that tank as a quarantine tank, and I have a small 15 watt heater for it, and that's more than enough. My house is kept at 68 degrees air conditioned, and I plug the heater in maybe twice a day for like a half an hour, and that's enough. The light on that tank puts off a good amount of heat in itself. The heater I got was a flat paddle style, and it just hangs in there by the edge, I don't even have it attached.

I also have this tank and have a small heater from wal-mart in there attached with the suction cups that come with it.

those tanks are acrylic. i haven't had a problem with mine. the heater's been in there for a several months now. (I think it's been 4-ish months)

what size is your heater and how many watts is it?

also, thanks for the input guys...

not too sure on the wattage. it's a small cheap one from wal-mart. i forget the brand, a junior heater, maybe?

Here's a good guide for what size heater per gallon - and it depends on how many degrees the water temp will need to be raised.

I had a 25 watt heater in my acrylic tank when I first started out. But I had to raise the temp from 65 degree room temp in winter to the 78 degrees the betta needed.

Acrylic tanks also hold a lot of heat, so the lights do a lot of heater work, as well! Make sure that you use both suction cups that came with the heater to keep it away from the wall of the tank, and watch to make sure your fish don't sleep behind there.

I have 25w Visi-Therm Stealth heaters in all of my small acrylic tanks and have never had a problem with them. Everything from 1g and up. I don't recommend those flat 5-15w heaters with no thermostat or way to control the temp. I tried one in my 2.5 and it kicked the temp up 10 degrees, making it way too hot.
