Ok i have tried live plants a few times, i love them and have kept the light on for the required time but seem to fail. Can you tell me the easiest plants to keep and specific planting details.

Thanks in advance

In my opinion, you can't go far wrong with plants like java fern, java sword and vallisneria.

ludwigia repens

this stuff grows like a weed in my tank. I've not even 'planted' it, it seems to grow fine floating just under the surface.

Check out the planted section - the folks over there can give you so much better advice than we "amateurs".

The very, very easiest is Java fern, IMO. I've even had it growing in unheated and unlit tanks. Tie it onto a piece of rock or bogwood; don't plant it in the gravel or it will rot. Same goes for anubias, don't plant it in the substrate. Anubias doesn't need a lot of light and is quite slow growing.

I find giant vallis the easiest to grow, the twisted one is most difficult with the 'normal' one in between in diffculty. Cryptocorynes are usually quite easy; I've got C. pontederiifolia in my tanks and it grows and spreads very nicely.
